Inside City programme cover featuring Spencer Hamilton

Programme Notes: 6th April vs Chester

Today’s welcome is to Chester FC, a club with a proud history. We hope they have had a good journey down, leave empty handed, and have a safe trip back up the motorway.

The game against Brackley will not live long in the memory, a game we should have won with the number of chances we had, but lady luck was against us again, as it has been on more than one or two occasions this season.

End of Season Awards

The awards are to be presented to the players after the County Cup Final, City v Bishops Cleeve, on the 23rd of April. The presentations will take place in the clubhouse immediately after the game. It will be a chance to thank the players and staff for their efforts this season.

 Volunteering at the Stadium

As we are approaching the end of the season, thoughts turn to next seasons campaign, which ever league we will be in, and the club still needs volunteers to help around the ground, not just on match day but throughout the week, jobs include small maintenance work, cleaning, gardening and much more. The club would not survive without its willing and able volunteers.

Trust membership and club shares

As you may have read elsewhere the Trust now owns more than 15% of the club shares. This is a major milestone in the trust history and puts the supporters at the heart of the club. It also shows our commitment to the club and its future.

We are extremely grateful to those shareholders who donated their shares to the Trust. There has never been a better time to join as all Trust members become part owners of the club.

We have had a number of new members join the Trust over the last few weeks, we are now just shy of 100 members. Please consider joining, it is a way of raising money to help the club and a way of getting your voice heard on club matters. Pick up a form from the club shop/clubhouse.

Old programmes

The club shop carries a good range of old programmes, dating back a number of years, so if you still do collect them and are missing any we may have it.

Or, if you have a collection that you need to dispose of, we are happy to take them off your hands, all monies raised goes towards helping the club.

Prices of old programmes – 50p each or three for a £1 [a deal can be done if you buy in bulk]

100 Club

The 100 club is now up and running with the monthly winner now receiving £120 in prize money. So, do not forget to sign up as the more people who join the bigger the winnings are every month.

You can sign up here at  gcafcsupporters.co.uk/100clubThe proceeds of the 100 club will go towards ground improvements.

Programme Notes: 9th/12th March vs Boston/Tamworth

Today’s programme covers two home games, so welcome to Boston on Saturday, a long trip across country to see us. On Tuesday evening we welcome Tamworth, a team a little bit nearer to us, not sure if it counts as a local derby or not, probably not. Anyway, let’s hope both teams have had a safe journey down to us and hope they have a safe one back.

Ian ‘Taff’ Compton

It was with great sadness that we heard Taff had sadly passed away. A long-time supporter of Gloucester City and a former chairman of the Supporters Trust, he played a key role in the success of the Trust after it reformed in 2001, taking over as chair in 2014 and helping in the raising of over a £1,000,000 for the club. He will be sorely missed, but remembered for his passion for ‘The City’.

RIP Ian 'Taff' Compton - former GCST chairman

If I can be half a success as chair of the Trust, as Ian was, I will be happy. He is a hard act to follow. Our condolences go to his family in this difficult time for them. There will be a minute’s applause for Taff before kick off against Boston.

Friends who wish to can make a donation to the Sue Ryder charity in memory of Taff.

County Cup

Last Tuesday evening saw us host Roman Glass St. George FC in the County Cup semi-final, an easy 4-0 win sees us into the final against Bishop's Cleeve, date and venue to be announced. Scorers – Rowe, 16, Beresford, 22, 26, 34. Att’ 190

Programme Notes - 10th Febuary '24

Our visitors today are from the North-East, so a big welcome to South Shields AFC. It is a long journey from that part of the country so let us hope it was a pleasant drive down and that they have a safe one back, hopefully with no points.

The game against King's Lynn was very disappointing, a lacklustre display which seemed to get worse after the injury to Joe Hanks. We hope he will be back fighting the cause as soon as possible. Let's get behind the lads again today and create the same atmosphere as last week, which was brilliant.

Fan Representatives on the Club Board

For the last month or so, discussions have been going on behind the scenes regarding a fan representative on the club board. The Supporters Trust put my name forward and Dave Herridge was also asked. I know we are both happy to be the voice of the fans to the club.

So, if anybody has any queries, complaints, suggestions or want to know anything about what is happening around the club, please see either Dave [normally in the T End or in the clubhouse] or myself [I am normally in the club shop]. Please remember both Dave and I are here to represent every City fan.

Honours Board

Earlier in the season the Trust announced that it was raising money for an honours board to remember the City players who sadly lost their lives during the World Wars. We have raised an amazing amount so far, but need another push to hit the target of £700. At present we are just shy of £500 so if you wish to donate to this worthy cause, no matter how small the amount, please drop into the club shop.

Club Shop

The club shop still has loads of stock, especially items for those cold afternoons or evenings watching the Tigers, scarves and beanies are a must at this time of year.

Volunteers –

As I have said so many times before the club is always looking for volunteers. There are always small maintenance jobs to do around the ground as well as the general upkeep of the stadium. So please consider giving up a little of your time, ask in the clubhouse for more details.

Programme Notes - 3rd Febuary '24

Today we welcome King’s Lynn Town, a long trip across country for a game which is a definite six pointer, so let us hope we pick up the three points today. Anyway, we hope they had a pleasant journey to us and will have a safe one back.

Two great results on the road have seen us edge closer to safety, but we are still in the dog fight so let’s get behind the team and help them get the points we need.

Mike Dunstan Charity game

The annual charity game in memory of Mike was discussed at the last Trust meeting and it was decided to run it again, this time as a separate event, probably in July. Keep an eye out for more announcements in the coming months, hopefully it will be bigger and better than last year.

Club Shop

The club shop still has loads of stock, especially items for those cold afternoons or evenings watching the Tigers, scarves and beanies are a must at this time of year.

Dorchester Town v Merthyr Town – 20th January 2024

I recently visited an old friend of mine in Yeovil and we decided to go and see Dorchester Play, a cracking afternoon of football with Dorchester edging it 3-2, a first visit by me to the Avenue Stadium, the people were friendly and helpful and the cheese burger was one of the best I’ve tasted.

Attendance was 518 with Merthyr bringing around 80, both sets of supporters were in fine voice too, a very enjoyable trip with more than a few beers consumed in the evening.

Volunteers

As I have said so many times before the club is always looking for volunteers. There are always small maintenance jobs to do around the ground as well as the general upkeep of the stadium.

Programme Notes - 20th January '24

Today we welcome Blyth Spartans, a long journey down from Northumberland. I have been to the county several times on holiday, it is one of the most stunning places in the UK, but have never seen a football game there, something I must address in the future.
Anyway, we hope they had a pleasant journey to us and will have a safe one back.

Our last home game against Southport was a little disappointing, to end up with a draw after being 2-0 in front was very frustrating, especially as I thought we were the better team on the day, until the injury to Zach changed our shape and style. The trip to Chester last weekend resulted in a 3-0 defeat, I understand it was an unforgettable away day.

Trust Board Meeting,

The Trust held its first meeting of the year last week, we were pleased to welcome Jay Marriott who filled us in on the plans of the club going forward. There are many exciting and sustainable ideas for the near and distant future but they will take time so please be patient with the club board.

Newent Town v Hartpury University – 9th January 2024

I took myself off on a cold and breezy Tuesday evening to see Newent Town v Hartpury University in the Hellenic League Division one. It was an evenly matched game until Tyler Weir was red carded [not sure what for] with both sides creating chances, but the University eventually ran out 1-0 winners. A satisfactory performance by Newent considering it was a top v bottom of the table clash.

If you have not been to a game at Newent recently, make time as the club is well run with good facilities and always welcoming. Attendance 70 [approx.] and you get a free programme.

Volunteers – Lisa and Jenny

Attached is a picture of Lisa and Jenny, our two main turnstile operatives, they always have a smile and a warm welcome to everybody who comes through their turnstile. They are pictured wearing their GCAFC Beanie hats just obtained from the club shop. As I have said many times the club is always looking for volunteers, please consider giving some of your time.

Programme Notes 6th January '24

A happy New Year to everybody, let us hope it is one which keeps us up in the division.

Our first game of 2024 sees us welcome our visitors this afternoon, Southport AFC, all the way from sunny Merseyside. We hope they had a pleasant journey down to us and will have a safe one back.

Our Boxing Day game against Hereford was a typical local derby, played with commitment from both sides and good vocal support all around the ground, from both home and away fans. It was such a shame we could not hold on for at least a point at the end, but well done to the team for the effort they put in that day.

Also a massive thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time, all around the ground people were ensuring the day went without a hitch or any problems, it can be a thankless job sometimes as I have experienced but it can also be very rewarding, especially when someone thanks you for your efforts. So once again, a plea for more fans to step up and give a little of their time volunteering at the club, there are numerous tasks that need doing throughout the week and on match days, which all helps to keep the club running efficiently, please do consider helping.

Baseball Caps - £12 [in either red or black]

Mugs - £10

- and many more items

Slimbridge v Longlevens – 30th December

As City had no game that day, I took myself off to Slimbridge, where I witnessed an entertaining local derby between two sides in the Hellenic Premier.

Slimbridge were the better side in the first half, leading 1-0 at the break, but Longlevens came out for the second half with more determination and eventually ran out 3-2 winners.

172 hardy souls turned out to watch the game in wet and windy conditions.

Programme Notes 26th December '23

Our visitors this afternoon, are our old rivals and friends from the adjoining county of Herefordshire,

So welcome to the Bulls from Hereford. We hope they enjoy our time with us this afternoon and we look forward to seeing them again on New Years Day when we travel to Edgar Street.

Our last two games before Christmas saw us take on Darlington and Curzon, both at home, these notes were written before the Curzon game, so I am unable to comment on that game. In the game against Darlington we slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat, a scrappy game where we just did not compete. So, let us hope the boys picked themselves up for the Curzon game.

Programme Notes 12th December '23

A warm welcome to our visitors this evening, Peterborough Sports. It is a rearranged game from a few weeks ago, we hope they have had a pleasant journey down to us and enjoy their time with us and have a safe journey back.

Our last league outing saw a superb performance by the team in 4-2 victory against Spennymoor, it certainly made the wine taste better that evening. Last week also saw us in action against a Bristol Rovers development side in the County Cup. A 4-1-win puts into a semi-final against either Cheltenham Town or Roman Glass St. George.

Programme Notes 4th November '23

A warm welcome to Warrington Town, our visitors today, we hope they have had a pleasant journey down and enjoy their time with us and have a safe journey back.
Last three games - The last three games have only produced three points, they came from the home game against Alfreton which was a great display from the lads. Against Southport and Tamworth I am told we played well but obviously disappointed again, especially with the late winner by Tamworth.
Having seen the squad after training the other night there appears to be a good togetherness in the team so hopefully, we can look to better results soon.
Quiz Night –The club held its first Pie, Chips and Quiz night a couple of weeks ago, 42 people enjoyed the meal, which was followed by a four round quiz. A good evening was had by all who attended. There are more planned in the future so please ask Nicky for details on how to enter.
Food Bank Donations -The Supporters Trust and Gloucester Foodbank are pairing up to collect donations for local people facing hardship in the run up to Christmas, please donate what you can, more details in the next programme.
Volunteers –Once again, a plea for more fans to step up and give a little of their time volunteering at the club, there are numerous tasks that need doing throughout the week and on match days, which all helps to keep the club running efficiently, please speak to us if you wish to know more.
Pop up shop – Eastgate Shopping CentreThe shop is now up and running, mainly manned by the FF6 team, who are starting a 6-a-side tournament at the Tiger Turf in November.
If you feel you can volunteer a bit of time to help in the shop, please speak to myself or Matthew Phillips. The shop is open Wednesday to Sunday 10am – 4pm.
If you are passing drop in and say hello. If you want more details on putting a team in the tournament, they will be happy to see you in the shop.
New 100 Club -
The 100 Club is now up and running and the first draw was held at half-time during the game against Alfreton, with the first winner received £115. So, the more people who sign up the more the winnings are every month. You can sign up on the website – gcafcsupporters.co.uk/100club.
The proceeds of the 100 Club will go towards ground improvements, especially the famous T-End,
2024 Calendars –
The Trust is hoping to produce a calendar for 2024, watch this space.
Coming soon – A postcard from Wales and Lancashire I recently spent some time in the two locations and managed to see three football games, so I thought I would pass my experiences of the afternoons/evenings at the clubs I visited. A trip around some non-league grounds.

Programme Notes 16th September '23

Today I would like welcome everybody associated with AFC Totton for our FA Cup clash, we hope they had a good trip up from Hampshire and wish them a safe trip back after the game. It is always good to welcome a club we have not played against before, please have a pleasant afternoon with us.
The recent two home games, v Buxton and Farsley yielded just one point, I thought the game against Buxton was evenly matched, but we just did not click against Farsley, not sure if the hot weather was a factor but then it was the same for both sides.
Club Shop –
We now have mugs, coasters, pet bandanas, car hangers and key rings in stock, along with the usual scarfs and baseball caps and clothing. We are still waiting for the replica shirt order to arrive so please bear with us.
New 100 Club -
We are excited to announce at today’s game the formation of a 100 club, entry is £10 per month with a fifty percent pay out per month. Please sign up online or ask for details in the club shop or ask any Trust board member. You can sign up on the website –gcafcsupporters.co.uk/100club/The proceeds of the 100 club will go towards ground improvements, especially the famous T-End, so the more fans who sign up the bigger the monthly prize.
Honours Board –
The Trust’s aim of having an honours board, remembering the City players who gave their lives during the World Wars, is coming along nicely. We have already raised £130 through donations and sales. If you feel you would like to donate, you can do so in the club shop [cash or card accepted]. It does not matter how much it is as every little bit helps towards the target. Our esteemed historian, Tim RD Clark, has kindly donated the remaining copies of his book, Gloucester City Players A-Z [which originally cost £20] for the discounted price of £10, with the proceeds going towards the target.
Volunteering at the Club -
The Club and Trust are always looking for match day volunteers, it can be anything from turnstile operatives, stewarding, selling programmes, helping out in the Club Shop or any other task that needs doing on a match day. I volunteer during the week doing odd jobs around the ground and on match days running the club shop, as I have now retired her indoors is very happy to see the back of me for a few hours. It can be extremely rewarding.
Old Programmes –
There has been a keen interest in our extensive hoard of old programmes covering many seasons past, they are all situated in the club shop and are on sale at 50p each or three for a £1, [or a deal can be done if you buy in bulk].
If you have any programmes that you, or the better half, wants out of the house we will happily take them, again all money raised goes towards helping the club.
Finally – New Trust Board member -
We are pleased to announce that Toby Ackland has been co-opted onto the board for the next twelve months, thank you Toby for volunteering.

Programme Notes 28th August '23

Firstly, I would like welcome our friends today from Rushall Olympic, we hope everybody who has travelled to see us will have a pleasant match day experience and a safe trip back home. It is always good to have new visitors to Meadow Park.
The first few games have not been as positive as we would have hoped, results wise, but I am sure Tim, and the team are working hard to improve things. It is still early days, and we would have hoped for a better return than 2 points from a possible twelve, and, famous last words, things can only get better…. onwards and upwards.
Mike Dunstan – Legends charity game
Back in July we held a charity legends and fans match in memory of our much-loved Chairman, a good crowd saw an exciting game with plenty of goals and a few tired legs at the end of it.
The money raised on the day will be donated to the cancer charity and they will be receiving £800. It was lovely to see Mike’s Father, Keith and his family, the trophy was presented to the winning captain by his son Jack. The game will be staged next year as a stand-alone event and hopefully we can raise more money for the charity.
Lionesses – Writing this at the end of the final, a huge disappointment for the team and country, but at the end of the day they did us and themselves proud, it was just not meant to be.But at least we beat the Aussies….

Welcome back to The Tiger Turf Stadium.
Well, here we go again, another season begins with all the optimism of it being a successful one, let us hope we can reproduce the excitement of the closing stages of last season. A nice run in the cups would also be good too.
Firstly, I would like welcome our friends today from Bishop's Stortford and, on Tuesday, Banbury United, we hope everybody who has travelled to Meadow Park has a pleasant time with us, except for the result of course, and a safe trip back home.
The Supporters Trust would like to officially welcome our new Chairman Patrick and his wife Nicky, let us hope we have a long and successful time under their leadership. Work has been going on during close season and you will notice changes all around the club, a revamped bar is the most obvious and a new club shop which is situated below the TV screen. There have been several small changes behind the scenes which will help with the match day experience and there are more enhancements coming.
Also, let’s give a massive welcome to our new manager, Tim Flowers, and his backroom team, those of a certain age will remember seeing him play for Blackburn and England, a safe pair of hands back then and a safe pair now.
The team from last season has mostly gone to pastures new, but the players coming in are up for the challenge and it’s nice to see some local favourites back amongst us. I for one am looking forward to the league campaign.
The Club Shop
We now have a dedicated building for the club shop which is situated under the TV screen on the west stand side of the ground, not fully stocked for the first game or two, but will be by the Rushall Olympic game, so a good time to purchase early Christmas presents. We will be extending the range of goods as time goes on.
The Trust
The Trust is going from strength to strength with a lot of ideas floating around for future events, but like most organisations we rely on volunteers who also have busy lives, so we need more fans to sign up as members and get involved with the Trust events which ultimately helps the club. There are new banners around the ground advertising the Trust and has the website address  on them as well as a QR code or you can drop into the clubhouse or shop and fill out a form.
Since the Trust's formation in 2001 we have raised more than 1 million pounds which has gone to the club, and it certainly helped keep it going during the exile years. Looking to the future we will be ring fencing a certain percentage of the trust income on a regular basis to help with ground improvements in the future, so the more members we have the more money we can save.
Lastly, for those who don’t know me, I’m Robin, I was elected chairman last year but could not really take up the post properly until last Christmas as I was finishing my working life down in Pembrokeshire, I remember being taken to see the City at Horton Road back in 1964 and have been a passionate follower ever since, even travelling up from West Wales to see games.
